Will it be able too? |

My Father and I have a company and we have hand drawn electrical diagrams for years. We use them to lay out our aprentices and to find a wire we may have missed or uncover a receptacle that was sheet rocked over. The reason other software programs wont work is because the wont let you show all the wires going to a box. They will only let you daisy chain. With a 5 gang box you may have 6 or 8 wires in it. I would only buy this if it was capable of this. It would also be nice to be able to show if the wire is a 12-2 or 12-3 for example. Also I think a palm version would be nice to have for service calls later on to trace out each wire easily.

In the initial release you will be able to show multiple wires to a box along with a label and wire/cable size if desired.
We do plan, at some point in the future past the initial release, to add a simulation feature. At that time or possibly before then we'll add the way to show a box with multiple wires coming into it and the wiring in the box. You'll be able to connect wires together in the box to show how the box is made up or wired. For example you would be able to show a three gang box with two three-way switches and one single pole switch and how the wires are connected in the box. |

That is exactly what I want.

Thank you for responding to my comment. That is exaclty what I want the software to do. Thank you for also making it possible to show the way the box is made up. I think that will help my apprentices alot. That really is a good Idea. The only problem now is I have a job coming up soon that would be nice to use this on. So please let me know as soon as this is availible. Thank s again.......Steve H. Jr.

Steve,
We'll let you know as soon as it's available. Thanks for your comments. Feel free to add any more ideas on what you'd like the software to do or contain. |

Simulation | ||
|
You say you will add 'Simulation', does that mean we'll be able to trace wiring faults like in Constructor? It would be helpful if we could make up connections and test. Don't know how you will do it but how about including active Line Carrier and other (electronic) devices not just hardwire? Palm (Electronic Blueprints) would be great for install and troubleshooting.
Thanks, jc |

Re: Simulation | ||

Jim,
Yes, when we add simulation you will be able to test the circuit. We do plan on adding some Palm compatibility in the future. As far as line carrier devices we'll have to consider it and let you know. We appreciate the suggestions. Thanks |

What About The Simulator?
|
In the simulation version in tutor mode will the software be able to introduce its own electrical and mechanical faults for the purpose of honing trouble shooting techniques without the user having to manually design and introduce a fault into the circuit?

Once we add a simulation feature to the software we'll see if we can add your request to the program. What type of faults would you like to see in the simulation (wiring errors, connection problems, bad switches, no voltage etc?)
Thanks for the input and suggestions. |

What type of faults would I like to see?

CMN123:
What type of faults would you like to see in the simulation (wiring errors, connection problems, bad switches, no voltage etc?) Squid: I like to see everyday true to life faults; I like to see a romex simulating a short after a staple upon installation has accidentally hit it I like to see a fault back at the panel box but the user would have to employ proper trouble shooting techniques to fine it, not just relying on hunt and peck techniques which would defeat the whole point of the program to help develop proper and reliable trouble shooting techniques and to build confidence in ones abilities. I had an experience once my sister lived in this older house that is about 25 years old with all the original wall plugs. One day half of the down stairs power went out on one side of the house and I ended up trouble shooting it and fixing the problem first by going to the panel and confirming the breaker was fine even though you couldnt reset the breaker after taking it out of the panel and testing the breaker it checked out fine. So I go back into the house and started to trace the line using proper trouble shooting techniques I ended up isolating it down to a single plug that had corroded over the years. I ended up replacing all the plugs in the house not that the other plugs had anything to do with fixing the problem my sister was experiencing but common sense told me if that one plug had corrode out and the house had all of its original plugs then If hadnt replaced the plugs she would have been experiencing the same problem within a day, month or within the year again. That is only one fault of many I think it should have as many faults included as possible that an electrician may experience. Then I would make the problems challenging based on different experience levels by placing the simulator into a higher mode to reflect experience levels like Novice Basic but no formal electrical experience Basic Apprentice Journeyman Master Electrician |

Thanks for your input and suggestions, I'll pass the suggestions on to the programming department and we'll see what we can do.
As I said in an earlier post we won't include simulation in the first release of the Wire Pro but it is planned for inclusion in future releases. I would think a short like you describe (romex staple) would be fairly easy to simulate in the program. |

Box Fill | ||

If it can take notes on the cables/devices in the boxes, will it do a capacity reminder/spec for box fill?

We may add this feature after the initial release. Thanks for the suggestion
